Frequently Asked Questions

Why are you offering these two courses specifically?

In our experience, the ability to both write about your work and plan towards your career goals are often foundational to a robust creative practice. We see these two courses as a great starting place for practicing artists.

How do you choose course topics generally?

NYFA regularly leads live online and in-person workshops and panels with artists. We select course topics based on the needs that we see from our creative community. Key topics in our curriculum include fundraising/grantwriting, strategic planning, marketing, marketing, writing about your work, and work sample reviews. If there’s a topic that you’d like us to cover, please email learning@nyfa.org with “NYFA Learning Course Suggestion” in the subject line.

What can we expect from NYFA Learning moving forward?

We plan to roll out additional courses on the topics listed above in the coming months and years. We envision not only expanding the types of courses offered, but more thoroughly addressing the discipline-specific needs of musicians, actors, dancers, writers, and visual artists individually. Lastly, we want to create more opportunities for artists and creatives to ask arts professionals questions live.

How do you choose course instructors?

NYFA has a broad network of artists and cultural workers who lend their expertise to NYFA programs. Through our professional development programming nationwide, we frequently engage a variety of arts professionals to lead workshops, serve on panels, or review artists’ work. If you’re interested in getting involved, email learning@nyfa.org.

How long can I access course content?

Indefinitely. Your one-time purchase enables you unlimited access.

Why do I have to make a LearnWorlds account to access the courses?

Because NYFA Learning is using LearnWorlds as the platform to host this content, you’ll need to make a Learnworlds account to access it. You’ll only have to do this once!

Is it possible to receive a discount?

We offer a bundle discount: two $35 courses are available for $50 when purchased together ($20 discount).

What is your refund policy?

We are not able to offer refunds. All NYFA Learning proceeds benefit NYFA’s mission to serve individual artists.

What is the difference between “Learn as You Go” and “Live Workshops?”

“Learn as You Go” content is self-directed, accessible anytime from anywhere with an internet connection, while live workshops bring learners together at a specific time. Both are typically 1-2 hours in length. Live workshops include time for Q&A with presenters, while the learn-as-you-go model includes learning modules, interactive exercises, and quizzes that guide you through the course, which you can complete in your own time.
